Kimberose are a French pop-soul band formed in 2016. The group consists Anthony Hadjadj (guitars), Alex Delange (keyboards) and Kimberly Kitson Mills (voice). While they keep writing new songs, Kimberose are touring in Europe to promote their debut album, entitled “Chapter One”. We recently heard some of their new songs, like “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” but the group hasn’t stopped releasing new stuff from their latest album.

Taking into consideration their rising fame and their interesting music, we discussed with Kimberly Kitson Mills, the band’s front-woman, about their new projects, their current activities and their future plans. Full of love about their music, Kimberly told us that their single entitled “I’m Sorry” is one her favorites, because this song took them where they are right now.

Although we are talking about a French group, Kimberose sings in English and they would love to perform even a song in French sometime in the future. According Kimberly’s statements, their biggest dream is to travel all around the world with their music and to keep singing for the rest of their lives.

Just before we start, would you like to say a few things about Kimberose, to introduce yourself to the Greek audience?

We are a French pop-soul music band eager to take over the world and spread emotions and positive vibes with our music. The band’s original members are Anthony Hadjadj (guitars), Alex Delange (keyboards) and myself, Kimberly Kitson Mills (voice).

What’s the story behind the formation of Kimberose?

In 2008, just after graduating high school I met Anthony and Alex at Uni in Paris. We were all studying Psychology. One day we started talking about Music and realised we shared the same passion so we started jamming. But at the time I was extremely introverted so it took a few years for me to fully embrace a music career. The band was officially created 8 years later, in 2016 when we all felt ready.

How did the name “Kimberose” occur?

In 2016, after spending a few months writing songs we realised we had not named our band. So we decided to shorten my names Kimberly and Rose which made “Kimberose”. In French “ose” means “dare”. It felt like the perfect name for us since it took me 8 years to finally dare being myself and sing. And of course I was able to do that with Anthony and Alex’s help.

In March you released your debut album “Chapter One”. Please tell us more about this release.

The release of our album felt like the birth of a child. It was a much anticipated experience. For the three of us it felt like a dream come true after all these years that we spent making music for fun.

Can you reveal which will be its next single?

I’d rather keep it a secret 🙈🙊🙉

Which song stands out for you, from this album and why?

It is a very hard question. I love all the songs but if I had to pick one it would be “I’m Sorry”, because I know that this song took us where we are right now. It opened so many doors for us, and I’ll always remember the audience’s reaction on the first night we played it… It was pure magic!

Would you record songs in French? Why do you prefer to sing in English?

I’d love to write a song in French. I’m sure it will come. But I’ve written all my songs in English so far since it is the first language I learned to speak. Both my parents are originally from English speaking countries (the UK/Ghana)

Are your feelings the main reason to write a song? From what/where do you gain your inspiration?

My inspiration for a song comes from life, emotions, encounters… Our first album helped me in so many ways. Writing songs is my favourite form of escapism.

In the past you’ve been connected to trip-hop, but you ended up creating pop-soul, what kind of music do you like the most and why?

I love all kinds of music. My tastes change over the years but what remains is my love for emotional music. What I love when listening to a song is feeling like the singer is talking to me.

You are currently on a tour. Tell us about your live-appearances plans. What should people expect from your show?

The touring life is amazing! We get to meet our audience and it is the best feeling in the world. What you should expect from a Kimberose Gig is to be emotionally gratified. That’s what we aim for, we want to share our emotions with the audience and music is the best way to do that.

What is Kimberly Kitson Mills’ biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to travel all around the world with my music and to keep singing for the rest of my life.

Have you ever visited Greece? What is your opinion about the Greek culture?

I have not visited Greece yet but I would love to. I don’t know much about the Greek Culture except for the Mythology that I was taught about in school. Hopefully I will come and learn about your culture soon and of course I would love to do a Kimberose show in Greece.

Would you ever do a political commentary through your songs?

Yes, I would if I felt like I had something important (and intelligent☺) to say.

After completing your tour, what are your next plans?

My next plan is to write new songs for our second album.

Finally, I left a question which we ask to all the artists interviewed by SounDarts.gr’s team. What is your motto in life?

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

Thank you very much for this interview. We wish you all the best for the future!
