Hello Vanotek and welcome to SounDarts.gr! Recently you released a new single, entitled “Someone”. What’s the story behind its writing?
I was looking for a voice for another track of mine and I stumble upon Denitia. When I heard her voice I thought to myself “this is the perfect voice” for another track I was working on at that time. I contacted her and she was very excited to collab. We did a videosession for about 5-6 hours thus concluding in our featuring “Someone”. It was a very creative session and we are very proud of our work.
You are active in the music industry since 2015. How easy was it for you to establish yourself as an artist during this era?
It wasn’t easy at all! I worked very hard ever since I was 17 years old. So my activity in the industry is not that recent. It took me a lot of perseverence, ambition and non-stop improving my knowledge and skills to be where I am today.
What were your deepest thoughts before the beginning of your career in music?
I was just a kid, I didn’t think that much about the future. I just had this calling for music and everything surrounding it. My focus was only to make music and become an artist one day.
Speaking of collaborations, who is the artist/band that you wish to collaborate with in the future and why?
I think it would be very interesting to make a collab with Moby. I have all of his albums, I know all of his work and I never get tired of listen to it.
Going back in time, how did your story begin? What or who was the motivation for your involvement with music as a DJ and record producer?
As a child I was very passionate about music. My parents saw that in me so they enrolled me at a music school where I started learning to play the accordeon. I continued my music studies at highschool as well and this is when I discovered electronic music.
Your debut single “My Heart is Gone” was a great hit in Romania and it gaining a nomination at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards. What were your feelings that moment?
I felt that all of my hard work and music is starting to get rewarded and listened to. This gave me an extra push to work even harder and to overcome myself.
What is your opinion about success? Do you prefer some awards or a crowded venue, and why?
To be honest both of them. I appreciate every award I get as a recognition of my work and also I love a venue full of people that enjoy my music and are having a good time on my set. I will define success as being able to do what you love every day of the week and at the end of the day you can go home and be with your loving family. As a husband and father of two kids I value a lot every moment with my loved ones.
What is the most extreme memory you have from a live set?
In Moscow in 2019 I had a concert where everyone attending knew all of my songs. I was absolutely wowed! This is one of my dear memories from a live set.
Vanotek, a perfect set requires successful songs or nice beat matching?
A perfect set for me will involve successful song and also cool beats. I always create a mix between the two of them when I’m working on my live sets this way I can really put forward my energy.
What are your next professional plans?
I wish to continue this path I have build for so many years now, to improve myself continuously and to create beaufiful music.
If you had to describe your career till now, what would that be?
This was only the warm-up!
