World Machine is an English band from London, consisting of Jack Shea, Naz Kalsey and Luca Romano. Their synth-pop sound is imprinted on their upcoming EP, entitled “EAN01”. Full of ambitions, World Machine is going to launch their music through a tour in the UK. We have already heard some songs from their project, such as “Each Beat Of Time” and “Affection” and World Machine told us a few words about them.

Their future plans include a worldwide tour and a studio album. World Machine talk to us about their biggest dream and their wide range of music. They share their opinion on political comments through their music and many more ideas through an interview with SounDarts.gr!

World Machine, welcome to SounDarts.gr! Tell us a few words about you.

We are an indie-electronica band from East London.

Recently you released your song “Each Beat Of Time”. What is the concept behind this song?

The song is about the process of growing older and looking back thinking how things have changed and who you have left behind in the process. The song speaks to a state of mind Jack was in during the recording of our first upcoming EP.

What are your musical influences and how did you end up in the genre of synth-pop music?

We have always been fans of clean production styles, mostly contemporary RnB and hip hop so the idea of our music being synth pop is still quite funny but we don’t mind, its a label that seems to follow us so we just accept it. Musical influences differ all the time. We like such a broad range of different styles from Soul to Trance music and then from Indie Rock to RnB. We really just write in a way that inspires us so there is no major influence most of the time.

What are your common interests and when did you discover them? Were them the reason to create World Machine?

Our love for good music and melody really connected us musically. We mutually see music as a form of colours and imagery as well as sound so that feeling alone began the musical collaboration.

Why did you choose the name “World Machine”? What does it mean to you?

The name came from the beginnings of our sound. Initially “World Machine” was going to be a dark RnB production project with its aesthetic being a connection between the mass media and computer age within culture and society. But as the project evolved we began to write more personal music and therefore the name stuck and grew into a different idea completely.

If you had to choose an artist or band of the global music industry to work with, who would it be and why?

Marcus Miller. Bass player for Miles Davis and Luther Vandross. Our dream is to have him play bass on all of our records.

What are your ambitions for the future?

At the moment we are finishing our first EP “EAN01” what will be out by September time and then we will start touring round the UK in the winter.

Is “Each Beat Of Time” the lead-single of a studio album? What are your future plans?

No “Each Beat Of Time” will be featured along with “Affection” on our 4 track EP “EAN01”. Affection was the main single along with the video that can be found online.

What style and what content will your future disc have?

There are a lot of tracks even from the upcoming EP’s that are so different to each other. There is UK Garage mixed with Power Ballads and Indie Funk it’s hard to pin down one sound.

How do you feel about the artists that comment on politics through their music? Should these two be combined?

We think it’s great. We believe the writer has a license to say what he or she feels and if expressing a political view is something close to the writers psyche then it should be shown.

Would you do something like that, and if so, where would you focus?

Jack likes to add personal opinion about everything he witnesses as a writer. “Each Beat Of Time” has a brief social commentary about how a lot of the time environments reflect people’s attitudes towards aspiration and goals.

Where will you be during the summer of 2018 and what should we expect in terms of your live appearances?

Playing round the UK for now then the WORLD.

What is the World Machine motto?

“To adapt is to create”.
