Discography & ID : Blur

• Οι Blur είναι ένα αγγλικό ροκ συγκρότημα από το Λονδίνο. Αποτελούνται από τους: Damon Albarn (φωνητικά), Graham Coxon (κιθάρα), Alex James (ηλεκτρικό μπάσο) και Dave Rowntree (ντραμς). Είναι ένα από τα πιο επιτυχημένα συγκροτήματα της δεκαετίας του 1990, ενώ ήταν γνωστή και η “κόντρα” με το συγκρότημα Oasis, σχετικά με τις θέσεις που έφταναν τα τραγούδια τους στα charts.
• Οι παιδικοί φίλοι Damon Albarn και Graham Coxon συνάντησαν τον Alex James, όταν άρχισαν τις σπουδές του στο Goldsmiths College του Λονδίνου το 1988. Ο Albarn ήταν σε ένα συγκρότημα που ονομαζόταν Circus, οι οποίοι τον Οκτώβριο της ίδιας χρονιάς ενώθηκαν με τον ντράμερ ο Dave Rowntree. Οι Circus ζήτησαν τις υπηρεσίες του Coxon, μετά την αποχώρηση του κιθαρίστα τους. Εκείνο τον Δεκεμβρίου το συγκρότημα απέλυσε δύο ακόμα μέλη και ο James εντάχθηκε ως ο νέος τους μπασίστας. Αυτή η νέα ομάδα μετονομάστηκε σε Seymour το Δεκέμβριο του 1988. Το όνομα ήταν εμπνευσμένο από το βιβλίο του J. D. Salinger, “Seymour: An Introduction”.
• Το συγκρότημα υπέγραψε το πρώτο του συμβόλαιο με την Food Records τον Νοέμβριο της ίδιας χρονιάς, ωστόσο το όνομα του συγκροτήματος δεν άρεσε στους ιθύνοντες της δισκογραφικής εταιρίας και έτσι αποφάσισαν να το αλλάξουν σε Blur, το οποίο σημαίνει στα αγγλικά “θολούρα”. Μεταξύ Μαρτίου και Ιουλίου 1990, το συγκρότημα περιόδευε με το Αμερικάνικο συγκρότημα The Cramps. Το πρώτο single του συγκροτήματος βγήκε τον Οκτώβριο της ίδιας χρονιάς και λεγόταν “She’s So High” και έφτασε στο #48 των βρετανικών charts. Προκειμένου να καλύψουν το χρέος που είχαν στις αρχές του 1992, οι Blur περιόδευσαν στις ΗΠΑ, ωστόσο η περιοδεία αυτή οδήγησε το συγκρότημα ένα βήμα πριν τη διάλυση. Ο πρώτος επιτυχημένος δίσκος του συγκροτήματος λεγόταν “Parklife”, ενώ περιείχε και το τραγούδι “Girls and Boys” που έγινε μεγάλη επιτυχία, φτάνοντας στο #5 των βρετανικών charts και στο #4 των αμερικάνικων. Η λεγόμενη “Μάχη του Britpop” μεταξύ των Blur και των Oasis ξεκίνησε το 1995, όταν οι πρώτοι έβγαλαν τον δίσκο “The Great Escape”. Οι δεύτεροι, ωστόσο, απάντησαν με τον δίσκο “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, ο οποίος έγινε 14 φορές πλατινένιος στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, καθώς και 4 φορές πλατινένιο στις ΗΠΑ.
• Το 1997, οι Blur έβγαλαν τον 5ο, ομώνυμο δίσκο, ο οποίος περιείχε την τεράστια επιτυχία “Song 2”, όπου έφτασε στο #2 του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου και στο #5 των Rock Charts των ΗΠΑ. Η τελευταία επιτυχία τους πριν τη διάλυση το 2003 ήταν το “Coffee and TV” που έφτασε στο #11 της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας.
• Ύστερα από την διάλυση του συγκροτήματος, ο Damon Albarn δημιούργησε το εικονικό συγκρότημα Gorillaz. Οι Blur επανενώθηκαν το 2009, ενώ έβγαλαν και το τελευταίο τους σινγκλ στις 17 Απριλίου 2010 με τίτλο “Fool’s Day”.
• Τον Δεκέμβριο του 2008, Blur ανακοίνωσε ότι θα επανενώνει για μια συναυλία στο Hyde Park του Λονδίνου στις 3 Ιουλίου 2009. Λίγες μέρες αργότερα, η μπάντα προστέθηκε μια δεύτερη ημερομηνία, για τις 2 Ιουλίου.
• Τον 27 Απριλίου 2015 κυκλοφόρησαν το δίσκο “The Magic Whip”, το οποίο έγινε χρυσό στη Αγγλία.
• Στις 13 Ιουλίου του 1999 εμφανίστηκαν στο Rockwave Festival με suppor ονόματα τους Placebo, Deus, Mercury Rev, Purple Overdose,Ονειροπαγίδα και Μιχάλη Δέλτα.
